Shao Yen is an experimental womenswear brand that mixes all together unconventional materials and shapes. The label was created in 2010 by Taiwanese-born Shao Yen Chen who gratuated from Central-Saint-Martin and previously worked in prestigious design houses such as Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan.
His Spring/Summer 2016 collection results from an intensive study of the sinews and muscles of human bodies. Shao Yen here focuses on joints where bones meets bones and examines how movements, speed and agility can be expressed through materials, fabrics and prints.
The designer also took inspiration from German-French artist Jean Arp; garments are draped and gathered together in a random manner in order to create a breezy, fresh and unfinished look. In this collection, Chen explores garment construction to enhance the grace of women’s movements and bodies.
